Recently I needed to make a birthday card for one of my stamping friends and I wanted to use the 25 Again stamp set. I looked in the Annual catalog and saw this idea on page 73. I loved the card so I decided to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) it.
The white background is our Glossy White cardstock. I'm not the best at creating watercolor backgrounds but the way the ink spreads on this paper, rather than just absorbing into it, makes it so much easier! I put a few drops of the Lovely Lipstick Classic Ink Refill into the lid of my ink pad and used an Aqua Painter to pick up the color. I squeezed the Aqua Painter over the cardstock until droplets of pink covered some areas. I used the brush of the Aqua Painter to spread the ink around and if any puddles remained I held the cardstock and kind of rolled them around until I was happy with the background. Any water still on the surface was dabbed up with a tissue.
The darker splatters were done by picking up ink with the Aqua Painter and using the cap to flick the brush end over the paper. You can test this technique on scrap paper first.
I used Stampin' Blends on Whisper White cardstock to color in my images but you could also use the ink and Aqua Painters to do this. I just like the ease of using the Blends.
Wink of Stella was added to the candles and cake, and I also traced around Happy Birthday so it wasn't so flat.
When you're stuck for an idea, the catalogs are always a great place to look for inspiration. You can view the catalogs by clicking on the buttons in the upper left or if you'd like one I'd be happy to mail one to you.
